Taking on the 2025 Mystery Box Rally – Supporting Cancer Research
I’m excited to be taking part in the 2025 Mystery Box Rally for the first time! My best mate and old school friend, Jacob Bazano, and I will be hitting the road to raise much-needed funds for Cancer Council Australia. While our good mate Chris Gray, founder of Your Empire, won’t be joining us this year, we’re still proud to be part of a team that embodies the same adventurous and giving spirit.
The Mystery Box Rally has raised over $8 million for cancer research over the past 12 years. In 2025, Jacob and I will be driving a 25-year-old car across 2,500km of outback roads over five days. Starting and finishing in Broken Hill, each day’s route remains a mystery until just before departure the following morning—adding to the challenge and excitement.
Why This Cause Matters to Me
Cancer has touched my family, and as a father of two young kids under 10, I’m increasingly aware of the risks, especially here in Australia with our harsh conditions. With their grandmother’s Irish skin, I have real concerns about their long-term health, particularly around sun exposure and skin cancer risks. Supporting cancer research and prevention is something I feel strongly about.
This rally is just one of many causes I support. I’m an ongoing member of Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off The Streets, where I mentor young people facing hardship. I’m also gearing up for my 5th year in the CEO Sleepout, raising funds for homelessness. Through my company, CATO, we proudly support WAGEC, RUOK and SANE, working to make a real impact in the community.
How You Can Help
To participate, we need to raise $4,000, and every dollar goes directly to Cancer Council Australia to fund research and support those affected by cancer. If you’re in a position to contribute, any donation—big or small—would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks for your support—I can’t wait to take on this challenge and make a difference! 🚗💨
Teams will drive their own 25+ year old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5-day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
Mystery Box Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.
